Performance of “Minuano (Six Eight)” by Pat Metheny and the Metropole Orkest at the world's largest indoor jazz music festival: North Sea Jazz Festival. Recorded live in 2003, this version enriches the classic 1987 song with orchestral arrangements, maintaining its distinctive 6/8 rhythm, Brazilian influences and complex harmonies. The original song is the first cut from the album “Still Life (Talking)”. The piece is famous for its vibrant energy, dynamic transitions, and fusion of elements of Latin and Brazilian music with jazz improvisation. Pat Metheny (born 1954) is an influential American jazz guitarist and composer, celebrated for his fusion of contemporary, Latin, and progressive jazz. Leader of the Pat Metheny Group, he has won 20 Grammy Awards in 10 different categories. He was a child prodigy, a professor at Berklee at age 19 and has collaborated with figures such as David Bowie and Jaco Pastorius. Minuano (Six Eight) is an acclaimed jazz fusion composition by the Pat Metheny Group, released on the 1987 album Still Life (Talking). The name is inspired by a cold southern wind in Brazil, reflecting Brazilian, folk influences and the intricate compositional collaboration between Pat Metheny and pianist Lyle Mays (1953-2020). The Metropole Orkest performs pop, jazz, world music and much more. Excelling in all of these genres, they are a driving force and pioneer in the development of today's international music scene. With a long history as one of the cultural icons of the Netherlands, they embrace cultural diversity. The Metropole Orchestra participates in innovative experiments and collaborations.
