Allan Holdsworth TAB – Looking Glass (Album Version – FULL Transcription for standard tuning #tabs)

Allan Holdsworth

Here’s my transcription of “Looking Glass” from the 1986 album “Atavachron”. I believe Allan wrote and recorded the rhythm parts using the SynthAxe. SynthAxe was tuned in 5ths so he later figured out how to play it in standard tuning. The many strecthy chords is not unusual for Allan but it’s quite challenging to play with all the fast position shifting.

The rhythm in the intro/verse is syncopated in true Allan style. Alternating odd time signatures made the most sense for notation.

The solo is just a work of art.

For some reason this album seems to be somewhat underappreciated, but to me it contains some of Allan’s absolute best soloing with beautiful touch and phrasing.
