‘The promoter said, ‘Where are you going? You were supposed to be on at 11 o’clock this morning.’ We laughed. Rory doesn’t play in the morning”: Rory Gallagher – the man, the myth and the legendary tales from the road

“I suppose that it keeps hammering at me, why didn’t we slow down?” Dónal Gallagher reflects. “Why didn’t we take life easy? It’s all those questions. But that was part of ‘Rory the Dynamo’. And probably that’s what happened when he was starting to get ill – the Dynamo kept going, but he couldn’t stop.”

But of course Dónal’s brother, Rory, one of the hardest-charging guitarists of all time, just didn’t work that way. And that, beyond all else, is the story told in Dónal’s new book, Edged In Blue, an autobiography of his life as sibling and road manager to one of the most influential guitarists of all time.
