There are a lot of pedals out there – and some real bargains to be found in Black Friday guitar dealsbut for my money $200 off the Walrus D1 delay pedal at Sweetwater is an outstanding deal right now.
For $149.99 it’s hard to imagine how you could get a more premium digital delay pedal for your money this weekend. And this is the updated version 2 of the D1.
You get five delay modes; Digital, Modulation, Vintage, Dual, and Reverse, a three-way tweak toggle for textures, and powerful parameters for deeper control with Tone, Attack Age and subdivisions.
MIDI users can rejoice in 128 switchable presets, and the V2 version here also sweetens the deal further with two types of stereo widening, a reworked reverse mode, revoicing of the vintage mode that emulates a tape delay, and a new overdrive feature. Somehow Walrus packed all this into a compact pedal.
The original version of this pedal impressed us enough for us to be awarded 4/5/ in our review – and that’s without the V2 improvements.
“All in all the D1 is a practical option for the gigging musician,” we noted. “It’s built tough, it’s compact, and those presets allow for quick changes onstage. But where it really gets you is with all the inspiring tones you can get from adjusting the Tweak settings and that expressive Attack knob. Really, there’s so much to explore, just try make it back home for tea.”
