Hey everyone! Here’s the next episode of Three-For-All with 3 John Petrucci Licks From 1995. It’s been a while since I’ve featured Mr. Petrucci and Dream Theater’s music on the LNL channel, as there are two Chordplay lessons surrounding their music, along with two additional Petrucci Three-For-All lessons from years past, but this is a brand new lesson – so let’s dive in!
This lesson revolves around licks pulled from the opening jam at the start of John’s classic ‘Rock Discipline’ instructional video from 1995. I’ve always liked John’s live guitar solos from the ’90s-era of DT’s music, and it seemed like every time he played a showcase solo during this era/period, it was loose and a little bit different live – which is cool!
The ideas shared in this lesson include a tasty double-picked pentatonic-based phrase, a jazzy hybrid pentatonic-based finger-twister, a bluesy expanded bending phrase with tons of attitude, a smooth single-string legato melodic phrase, and much more!
Needless to say, if you’re a John Petrucci/Dream Theater fan, a viewer that asked for more from this legendary guitarist, a player searching for some slick licks to stick in their bag of tricks, or maybe you’re just curious what all the fuss is about – this lesson is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons – THANK YOU!
