[Music] [Applause] okay so let’s take a look at all the parts to Rain in the River be sure to stick around to the end of the video cuz at the end of the video be playing through the whole song alongside a homemade backing track and you’ll see tab scroll across the screen okay so this song’s in the key of C major quite a slow one about 75 BPM drop a C tuning for this one it’s going to tune the E string down to a C A down to a G D down to a C G down to an F B down to an A and then E down to a C that allows you to get these really nice thick sounding chords so let’s take a look at the chords first so we’ve got a basically we’ve got a D chord but you can play all six strings because of the tuning we’re actually going to refer to it as a C because of the tuning and the D-tuning so then if you just play that chord without your middle finger just up to the B string that’s a D5 chord so we’re going to refer to that C5 then if I think in the intro does this kind of cool little arpeggiated um so Dsus 2 shape just take your middle finger off uh and then but we’re going to refer to it as a C sus 2 and then a G5 chord so third finger third fret low E block the A string first finger um third fret on the B so that will be a G5 chord we’re going to refer to it as an F5 so not many chords there most of the song is pretty much just those kind of two chords going back and forth uh which sounds great so what I’m also going to do now is put the song structure up on the screen hopefully that will allow you to break down all the individual sections so let’s take a look at the intro first so it’s worth mentioning so if you get the tab from the store uh there’s this cool little intro guitar with lots of fiddly bits um that’ll be on there the guitar one so this is the one we’re doing today the drop C i think it combines really well with a guitar in standard tuning so I think that’s what’s going on in the record i could be wrong so I’ve got another guitar that’s in standard tuning which is uses a C and then an F major 7 so I think they combine I think there’s a lot of layers on this um this track so and then we’ve got the guitar solo which we’ll go through um another video and also acoustic I think’s happening as well just in standard tuning just to thicken up the guitar solo so the intro starts off this 64 bar uh these little riffs and the synth and there’s two normal bars of 44 and then this guitar comes in Cus2 uh kind of arpetated chord there upstroke and on beat four just hit the bassy strings and it rings out so it’s 1 2 3 4 then 1 2 3 4 and then you got this one and 3 4 and then 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 just with a C5 without that E string cool um and then basically you’ve got the first and the second verses so it’s mainly just getting used to the strumming pattern it’s the same um chords pretty much throughout so you got the your C chord again looks like a D we’re going to call it a C you’re going to go bass string first 1 and then beat two is down up the rhythm is quite fiddly it’s 2 E and uh so 1 and 2 E and uh down up then there’s a tie so it rings out a quarter of a beat and you’re going to go up down and then down down up at the end so down down up up down down down 1 and 2 e and 3 e and 4 and so the verses first verse second verse two bars of that [Applause] C it combines really well with that other guitar then the G5 or the F5 back to the C then two bars of the [Music] F5 two [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] bars so it’s really worth mentioning it’s worth combining this with that guitar and standard tuning and it will sound awesome I think so so that’s the first verse and then the second verse now the chords underneath the guitar solo are basically this four bar phrase so you got the um the first four bars of the verse so this the C and the F5 back to the [Music] C you just do those uh two four bar that four bar phrase twice cool and then the third verse pretty much starts off exactly the same so you got the two bars of [Music] [Applause] C [Applause] F5 okay and then you’re going to do three rounds of the last four bars of the verse so the F5 two [Music] bars and when you’ve done three rounds of that he changes the rhythm slightly to match those awesome drum fills by Max who’s going to do this this is the fourth round of that four bar phrase okay so you’re going to go 1 and 2 3 and 4 1 and 2 3 and four and back to your normal strumming for the C [Applause] just syncs really well with that those awesome drum fills and then uh round five is [Music] normal it does fade out on record just want to make a nice clean ending for the backing track and then end on the C so that’s all the parts for this guitar uh if you do want to get the uh file um you can get the guitar solo and all the
