'Chelsea Dagger' The Fratellis Guitar & Bass Lesson

[Music] Heat. Heat. Heat up here. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Hey, guitar buddies. Great fun track to play the fatellis and Chelsea dagger. So, we’re starting on the intro with a little just a little slide played along with the bass there. Just slide it to a G on the 15th fret of the E string from about two frets below. Sliding that down. It goes to bass for a few bars. And then we’re just coming in with a just a G to a [Music] [Applause] D. Okay. Just just simple bar chords. And then we’ve got that D. So here I’m [Music] [Applause] playing. Okay, I’m playing a G and then adding the sixth note. You know, classic sort of status quo. Okay, so I’m playing a G bar chord and my little finger added on seven on the A string and a D chord and adding my little finger on nine on the D string. [Music] So that’s that section. And then we’ve got the kind of verse section which I’ll play the G to A7. So G to A7 and C to B, E minor to D and then all that again. G, [Music] A7, C, B, E minor, then a D. little stop there. And then we got that D. So I’m just playing on there just [Music] stabs simple. Okay. And then back into that. Just just that again. And then we’re kind of just repeating verse, chorus, and then we’ve got a little section uh where we just [Music] got and here I was playing the D on 10. I just like that slide [Music] up. You got that. And [Music] [Applause] then and then the final chords we’ve got G C [Music] D A D. Yeah. And then got that goes around a few times. Then it’s back to [Music] um and [Music] basically ends on a G. So it’s nice and simple to learn and great fun one to play. Good for a good old pub crowd kind of thing. And there’s the second guitar that I’ve put in there. Uh it’s a little bit in the mix. So it comes in where I’m sort of uh the second time kind of into this. I’m playing the kind of vocal melody on the guitar. So So I’m just playing D sharp A. So D and back down. So it’s basically 5 67 765. [Music] Then adding that G there on five on the D string back down 765 on A and then again. And [Music] so stop there. And the same thing but now on the E and A strings. Okay. And then in the second verse, I just added, you can listen on the track. I didn’t play exactly. I’m just kind of doing the same kind of spirit of what they’re playing, which is kind of putting just some blue scale licks over the chords. So you got So for the [Music] G all that kind of scale, you know, so the [Music] vocabilly, that kind of stuff. So I’m using basically the top three notes of the chord G. Uh so well the G chord B D and G 4 3 and a hammer to that B. Come down the blue scale. So that pattern is basically starting on the D string. You play 5 35 36 36 that little hammer to four as well. that kind of stuff. And then again, just moving that shape up two [Music] frets to the A chord, move it up to the eighth position. [Music] So here we’re going from eight little faster eighth position to seventh position up to up to an E on 12 and then a D on 10. So it’s just really kind of little blue scale. So any little blues scale licks over those chords if you’ve got a second guitar uh work nicely. Okay. So that’s kind of what we’re doing on the track. And then we’re basically kind of back in [Music] with Yeah. Um, and then right at the [Music] end there you got this little lick where I’m just playing. I think that’s the [Music] one little kind of on that A to D chord on that end section. I’m just playing open A slide to four from three E to A again D F sharp. So, and then the same next string up something like that. [Music] Yeah, that kind of thing. Then back into So, um, lovely. Yeah, good little fun little extras to put in there. And next, we’ll take a look at the bass. I’m using a pick for the bass. And I start with a hammer from F to G. And then we pick. And then one, two, three. So D. So that’s three and five on the D [Music] string. And again [Music] D and coming back down G F D. And then you’re into just a G on the bottom string on three three bars. And you’ve got this little little fill. Just a G and a G, an octave. Three and five. D that kind of thing just a G to a D. So here I’m playing a G on three and rather go to five. It’s nice to get that sliding sliding up to 10 and again nice. I could just slide back down, but it’s quite nice to put an E in there. I think it does that sometimes. Back to the G. Back to the D. Yeah, it’s all simple to follow that on that D. I finish the second time with a little fill. So, um going into the verse, just sliding five to seven, A to B, D odd five, back to B. verse. A G to an A D to a C 8 B on seven E on 12 and a D with little fill 10 10 on the E string and then 12 10 12 D C A. Okay. On the D and A strings. Then that repeats the second time after the E. You got a little stop there on that D. Okay. And then you’re kind of playing along with the guitar lick. [Music] Um yeah. So So that’s chromatic. Three notes here. Just up and down on D sharp E. Back down back up. So put a G in there on five on the D string back down and there and then repeat a string lower. So starting on the [Music] A, then you’re best basically back into D and the G kind of repeating verse chorus. It’s all pretty much the same there. And then you’ve got a little section where you [Music] got Yeah, that’s that G and D. That’s just G and D. just kind of follow the rhythm on that. You go that kind of stuff. All good fun to play. And at the end you’ve got Chelsea. Just it’s just G, C, and D for the first bit. Could put a little fill in there. G. So G, F, D, C to D. [Music] or not. This all works. A and then little fill if you want to. Again, that D is nice. [Music] Or whatever works really. Just kind of you can play that D. You can keep it on the D or you could play up here. Um, and just get your back there. You could have a go straight or you could put a little fill in. It’s always good to have a little bit of fun with it. Throw a few things in it here and there. And that’s it. Basically in the end of that G and D again. And it finishes at very end on a single G. Boom. All right. So, thanks for watching buddies. Have fun. Cheers. [Music]
