Hey, good morning guys. Today we’re going to hit uh Desert Song by My Chemical Romance. There’s two guitar parts here, so we’re going to try to narrow that down into one. Uh sometimes we’re more successful with that than other times, but I think it’ll work for this one in standard tuning, which is great. A lot of times these guys alternate between uh different tunings and capos and all that kind of stuff. So, the good news here is this is just straight away in standard tuning, but there are a couple interesting chords. Um, the strumming patterns down, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, down. So, get that slow and then gradually bring it up to tempo. Down, down, up, down, up, down, down, down, up, down, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, down. And the first chord is that E minor chord. What’s interesting is he goes from E minor into an E minor 9, which is kind of a pretty chord. So he’s going like this E minor. You see the movement on that first finger. So he brings Now take all this with a grain of salt because like I said there is another guitar part but the main acoustic part underneath is now this chord is the real interesting one. It’s a a it’s rare to see this in rock music. It’s a C um it’s a C minor major 7 chord. And you can hear it has a really dissonant um charm to it, but it’s not particularly easy to play. Uh you have you have to play this as a bar chord. So you’re across the third fret here. I do it with the third finger there, second finger, and then the pinky. And you can clearly hear that’s the voicing he’s using. [Music] [Applause] So that’s your intro. He comes out of the intro before he starts singing at the bottom of your chord sheet at the bottom right. You’ll see it. [Music] So he does he’ll do that little lick that’s kind of stands out. So you should probably do it then as we get into the song. What we’ll call the verse here is we hold. Follow along with your [Music] lyrics. Swell [Music] rain after a [Music] Hey, hey, hey. So that takes us through um the whole first verse which is marked there for you on the lyric sheet. Well after all and what he does here is kind of cool. You have a G chord here, right? You’re just going to interplay between G add 2 and G major 6. So when you get this anchored, right? You’re listen to this. [Music] on and that’s when he um that is when he uh is saying we’ll lie another day. So it’s a G chord with an added two and then an a G major 6. So he’s kind of playing using some interplay on that. Then when he goes to the C chord, he’s doing the same thing kind of. He’s playing a C major 6 and then he goes to a regular C. the chorus. Well, to nine, well to D with an F shape. Well, A minor rest dead is a minor 7. Then he goes around again. Well, tonight D with an F sharp. E minor. I can see you awake. anytime in my head. So we’re going from C awake anytime G with a B in the bass A minor 7. Now, what’s interesting about that C G with a B in the bass to A minor 7 in the did we all fall down section goes through that sequence four [Music] times. C G with a B in the bass. A minor 7. Um, and then I guess this would be some sort of interlude from the lights to the pavement, from the van to the floor, from backstage to the doctor, from the earth to the morg. Uh, that’s just an A minor 7 van. I just, it’s hard to hear that part, guys, because he’s really uh vocalizing there. Uh, and uh, there’s a little lead guitar part going on. So, it’s a little difficult to hear exactly what’s going on, but the chord doesn’t change. The harmony stays at a minor, but I think he changes the voicings by [Music] going. Or and you could even [Music] go. So, I’m kind of vaguely hearing that, but um I got to confess to you, I’m guessing a little bit. It’s just a minor 7. If you slide that up two frets, that’s a nice open voicing. If you slide the second finger up from there one fret and add the [Music] third. That’s kind of cool interplay that you could use over that A minor 7. Uh but hey, you listen to it and tell me what you think. And then here we are at the end of the song which is back to uh well [Music] tonight. Will it ever spend the rest of your days rocking for the day and then he goes through that course um all over again. The Desert Song by My Chemical Romance. Interesting tune. It has some cool chords in it, but that should get you straight away through the entire uh entire song. The tab sheet is super helpful. The chord sheet is going to be super helpful for you. Uh it’ll lay out all those chords and then the chord chart that comes uh is the other document uh you’ll want to look at cuz that has the lyrics and that can just you can just follow along there. So my chemical romance today. Thanks for tuning in. www.thegard-shop.com the guitar-shop.com. Email the Guitarshop [email protected].
