Here’s a simple way to begin using chord tones in your improv solos for jazz guitar. Um, if I know a basic caged position shape of C [Music] major, I’m going to count my arpeggio out for each chord. I start with the two chord on D. It’s D minor 7. I want root, third, fifth, seventh. So I’m going to play all the notes of C, but I’m going to find the root, 3rd, fifth, seventh starting with D of that C shape. So instead of starting, I’m going to start from D. There’s one octave. So here’s my root. Second, I don’t want that. Here’s my third. I want that. Fourth, I don’t want that. Here’s my fifth. I want that. Sixth, I don’t want that. Seventh, I want that. That’s how I can build an arpeggio.
