Guthrie Govan (Chelmsford, Essex, England, December 27, 1971) is an English guitarist known for his work with bands such as Asia (2001–2006), GPS, The Young Punx, The Fellowship and The Aristocrats. He is one of the most virtuoso guitarists today. He is a renowned guitar teacher and has worked for the English magazine Guitar Techniques, Guildford's Academy of Contemporary Music and the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. He was also the winner of Guitarist magazine's “Guitarist of the Year” competition. He makes instructional videos for the company Lick Library.(1)​ He started playing the guitar at approximately 3 years old and taught himself. At the age of 7 he had his first electric guitar, a Gibson SG Special (with “P-90” pickups). Today he is considered one of the best modern guitarists, and is recognized for his complex way of executing the “Tapping” technique, especially notable in the songs “Fives” and “Sevens” from the Erotic Cakes album. He has mastered a large number of musical styles.(2)​
