The Greatest Guitar Solo of All Time

[Music] [Music] heat Heat [Music] Apologies Can I quickly just tell you about my most favorite solo ever recorded Uh and why I think so and then I’ll ask the question is are these kind of anthemic solos still still happening in music today I argue that they are but they’re in quite obscure places sometimes It’d be interesting to see what your guys’ opinion is Anyway let me just play along with it Come on that’s Come on for a laugh You got to go to 11 and give it everything haven’t you I might have sped it up a tiny bit just to give it that kind of live vibe you know cuz let’s be hon Well no maybe not Nowadays everyone has click tracks don’t they But um back in back in my heyday you’d play live everyone be excited and I’ve told you generally the drummer would be coked out of his eyeballs But uh it just made the the song and the performance more intense So let’s let’s give it [Music] some give it [Music] [Music] everything [Music] Heat up [Music] [Applause] [Music] here Heat up here [Music] Heat Heat Heat Heat [Music] Heat up here Heat up here Heat up here [Music] [Applause] [Music] Stop Oh my god Can I just tell you I obviously didn’t play B had a couple of fluffs here and there but it doesn’t matter That’s the whole point You grip it and rip it live and give it everything go to 11 Again I apolog I do I speed everything up I just my opinion just just that little bit Just push it a little bit It just makes everything sound a little bit better in my mind Maybe I’m wrong Anyway the whole thing there let me grab another pig Whole thing there is its iconic Freeird Leonard Skinnard Everyone knows him The other famous one [Music] obviously turn [Music] up Oh not with delay Sorry apologies Um absolute iconic The thing is my favorite solos They’re all kind of 70s era just all that type of stuff Obviously the Dave Gilmore stuff and the other one I will I will do cuz I’ve got to do a whole thing um on Joe Walsh who’s an absolute hero of mine but everyone will know the one that I’m not allowed to [Music] play See again I’ll get arrested for playing that but um I’ll do it anyway Uh just these iconic uh solos from back in the day I believe it’s it’s probably because of nostalgia and it’s just what I first got excited about hearing But maybe there’s some merit to it because everything is just it’s a lot of mainstream stuff is manufactured isn’t it There’s few genuine original bands going on nowadays but you can find them And this is where I’d argue that potentially I think I think the I think it would be if I had to choose I’ I’d say John Patrrui does some proper anthemic solos nowadays If you were to hear like the solo for well it’s not even it’s a bit older now isn’t it The Octavarium album but the solo at the end of that title track I still now just think it’s one of the greatest guitar moments ever You see how it’s it’s not famous but to me it just Oh my god it gets me I don’t even know it I’m not going to try and play it But then he did another one didn’t he At the best of times uh off the Black Clouds album Oh and uh uh the the modern one they won the Grammy for the alien Again just the the solo at the end of that is just in my mind it’s it’s anthemic It’s melodic and there’s there’s not really any flash in there at all It doesn’t have to be The thing with this track Free Bird I love it I love it It just doesn’t get any better than that And the [Music] beginning it’s brilliant It’s absolutely brilliant But you I I’ve got to admit it is like a bunch of rock licks stuck together isn’t it you know Uh but again like just the attitude in that song it just grabs grabs the note by the [Music] balls God you just cannot play that You can’t do it can you You’ve got to actually play it with your heart soul hands and balls You got to give it the attitude it deserves Does make it harder to play I got to admit you know the amount of aggression I put into it I did make a couple of fluffs here and there but um the hardest one out of that one I’ve got to admit is this one [Music] [Music] here Oh I got open G there didn’t I Sounds different than this [Music] [Applause] [Music] So that lick appears a lot in uh one of my uh heroes um arsenal if you like And it is let me play a song that is [Music] um plays it there Oh Oh God Of course And [Music] carried away here But that’s the phrase right there isn’t [Music] [Applause] it See he stole from the best Anyway uh again I I I know I ramble on but it it is the most exciting stuff ever I’ve got to I’ve got to admit going over all my favorite stuff from the past I think that’s what it is It just links me to my childhood man Uh and to get that excitement I uh used to have I’m getting it back I’m getting it back I’m really really enjoying playing again and um trying to I feel trying to get back to where I was I’m I’m not far off not far off but you know with your encouragement Thank you very much So I want to list tell me some iconic anthemic solos your favorites and then um again I’ll uh incorporate them later on because this is the thing I’m going to do this hopefully uh full-time in the future not not just YouTube obviously I’m going to build my online uh academy darling and um hopefully get out there with Rick and do a load of seminars and live performances That’s the dream Anyway so there you go That if I had to choose one it is Freeird Lunard Skinnard And in my mind it just doesn’t get any better And I still love it to this day So listen to it learn it perform it play it and remember what Ingve says Grab the notes by the board [Applause] [Music]
