By the time Sledgehammer was released, Peter Gabriel was already a successful artist. Having played a pivotal role in the original lineup of Genesis, he proceeded to embark upon an incredibly creative period, delivering four solo albums, and some very notable singles, such as Solsbury Hill and Games Without Frontiers.
