What is it?

Sitting somewhere between the Katana-50 and the Katana-Mini X, the Boss Katana-25 pitches itself as the ultimate home practice amp. Building on the ever-popular Katana platform, Boss has got an interesting amp on its hands, as this model isn’t quite small enough to be a desktop guitar amp, while anyone who wants to gig will be better off with at least the Katana-50 Gen 3.

The Katana-25 features an 8-inch speaker housed in an open-back cabinet, with a design that looks pretty much exactly the same as any other amp in the lineup aesthetically. There are quite a few differences overall, though, and the control panel on the top is noticeably slimmed down versus the full-size Katana-50.

Controls for gain, volume, bass, middle, and treble line the left-hand portion of the top panel, and a new tone-setting encoder with a push-button function. Either side of that is an effects switch and a tap tempo. After that, there’s a small switch for the two power options: 25W and 0.5W, plus a master volume.
