Realism matters when making a film, but sometimes the pursuit of authenticity can have unexpected consequences. That was certainly the case on Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, when a rare 1870 Martin was brought onto the set for a scene in which Kurt Russell’s character smashes a guitar against a wooden support.

The incident occurs when John “the Hangman” Ruth, played by Russell, becomes angry with the guitar playing of Jennifer Jason Leigh’s Daisy Domergue. He takes the acoustic guitar from her and smashes it against a wooden support, to Leigh’s very real shock and dismay.
