What is it?

Okay, so I’ve been pretty vocal about my love of the Vox AC30. As far as amps go, it’s my favourite of all time, and I’m not alone. Everyone from Tom Petty to Brian May, Dave Grohl to Tom DeLonge, has used this diamond-clad combo to rock stadiums, but when it comes to playing one at home, it can get a little tricky.

The AC30 is a loud beast, like, seriously loud. You can find smaller tube-based options like the AC30’s little brother, the AC15, or the pint-sized AC10 and AC4, but they can still be a little much for small spaces, especially if you live in a flat or apartment.

That’s where the new Vox AC Mini comes in. This miniaturised 10W AC looks to bring the iconic styling and tone of its tube-driven cousin into a smaller, desktop-friendly format.

The amp’s core is an all-analogue, solid-state circuit Vox calls a “Dynamic Response Circuit”, designed by the same folks behind the celebrated Hand Wired Series. Of course, with a name like that, I expect this little amp to respond like a tube amp, giving me the touch response I’ve come to love about my own AC-30, but we’ll get to that later.
