How the Beatles reinvented the recording studio with Rubber Soul

The Beatles’ expanded Rubber Soul Special Edition is out today, October 2, giving fans an unprecedented look inside the sessions that produced one of the band’s most important albums. Alongside newly mixed versions of the 1965 classic, the release features previously unheard session recordings and home demos, including the previously unreleased John Lennon composition “Little Girl.”

But the most important story surrounding the album isn’t what listeners will hear in the newly opened vault recordings — it’s what happened inside Abbey Road Studio Two during the autumn of 1965.
